Cancer Screen
A screening plan should match the person and the question.
Cancer Screen is a defined screening-assessment pathway. Screening is not a guarantee that cancer is absent, and it is not a substitute for diagnostic assessment when symptoms or an abnormal finding are present.

What the enquiry and assessment may cover
- The reason for screening and your questions.
- Age, personal and family history and known risk factors, as relevant to the approved pathway.
- Existing screening records, prior abnormal findings and any current symptoms that may need a different route.
- The specific tests included, their purpose, preparation, limitations and reporting.
- How an abnormal, uncertain or incomplete result will be communicated, and what further assessment a clinician may recommend.
Screening and diagnosis are different
Screening looks for signs or risk indicators in an eligible person; it does not establish a diagnosis by itself. A positive, suspicious, negative or inconclusive result may still need further assessment, depending on the test, any symptoms and the clinical context.

Urgent medical needs
If you have symptoms such as a new lump, unexplained bleeding, persistent cough, difficulty swallowing or unexplained weight loss, do not wait for screening. See a doctor for diagnostic assessment.
